The United Methodist Church of Chinchilla...
...A welcoming Christian community, developing personal relationships with God, growing together in love and faith, and promoting social responsibility. This is our Mission.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. ~Matthew 6: 9-13
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

About the Church Building
Constructed in 1961, is of modern gothic design. The sanctuary of the church focuses upon the stain glass window showing "The Invitation of Christ". The lighted brick tower rises 58 feet, housing the bell from the original church. Approximately 270 persons can be seated in the nave. Adequate facilities for Sunday School, fellowship and cultural-recreation activities are found in the education wing.
The United Methodist Church of Chinchilla celebrated their 150th anniversary in 2018.
Church History
It was in 1818, in the log house of Ephraim Leach that the first Methodist services were held by the Reverend George Peck. Services were held here in irregular intervals until a frame school house was built on a site across from the present South Abington Elementary School. Church services were held here in the same manner until 1868.
In 1868, the "little white church" was built and dedicated by the Reverend Peck who first conducted services 50 years before. Egbert Snyder donated the land on which it stood and Giles Leach gave all the hemlock lumber in which it was built. The little white church was located at the triangle formerly made by the intersection of Clarks Green Road (now known as South Abington Road) and routes 6 & 11.
In 1905, the Holgate building was transformed into a church under the direction of the Reverend J.S. Custard. This was the center of the Christian and social life of the community.
Interestingly enough it wasn't until the pastorate of the Reverend John Frey (1913-1914) that the hour of worship was changed from the afternoon to 11:00A.M. one month and 7:30 P.M. the next, alternating with Clarks Green. About this time the church was wired for electricity. The bell which still calls worshipers and has hung in three steeples in Chinchilla was procured by the Royal Daughters' Sunday School Class.
In 1924 a new church was built where route 81 now crosses Layton Road. Keeping pace with the growth in population was the growth in membership and financial strength of the church. Services were held here until May 1960 when the church was dismantled to make way for the construction of interstate highway route 81.
In 1961, the present day church was constructed on a property purchased from the grandchildren of Egbert Leach, descendant of Ephraim Leach, one of the first settlers of the area. The first worship services were held on December 24, 1961.

The Great Commission
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. ~Matthew 28:16-20
